The Purbeck WALX festival (formally the Purbeck Nordic Walking Festival) in Dorset will enter its fifth year in 2021 having sadly missed 2020 due to Coronovirus.

Join us on the 17th 18th and 19th SEPTEMBER 2021 for a bigger and better event!

Explore this stunning area on the Jurassic coast and take part in walks in iconic locations like Brownsea Island, Thomas Hardy’s cottage and Old Harry Rocks. We have hundreds of walks for all levels, with or without poles. All led by trained leaders and all with an essence of adventure, food or fun (or perhaps all 3!)

This 3 day event includes two distance challenges (16 and 27 miles) and a Saturday night social with live music at our unique Festival hub nestled beneath Corfe Castle.

For the past four years a host of Nordic Walkers from around the world came to learn, participate
and simply enjoy nordic walking at all levels. See pictures here.

So come and join us on our home turf in 2021, the stunning Isle of Purbeck in Dorset. Explore tranquil beaches, stunning Jurassic coastal paths, ancient castles and picture postcard villages. Registration will open this Winter.

What’s On?
This festival will combine innovative workshops, presentations, social events, over 100, guided walks and the UK’s only dedicated walking and nordic walking Marathon (in fact its almost 27 miles due to the rugged terrain!) there will also be a 16 mile stunning challenge route.

The full timetable will allow plenty of opportunity to walk, relax and socialize including our range of Friday night supper walks and a music spectacular on Saturday evening.

Click here to see the types of Walks and Workshops we have on offer, and click here to see the 2019 TIMETABLE to get an idea of just how many walks and workshops we put on every day (and of course we expect to exceed that in 2021)

What you Get?
All festival pass holders get a Festival wristband, T-shirt and Goodie bag plus access to the HUB which is in an exclusive location with more emphasis on social events, music and retail stalls. This year we will also offer those who only want to take part in the challenge events our NEW challenge only passes which do not include access to the HUB events or activities.

We are busy planning the schedule already but we do know that there will be a warm Dorset welcome for Walkers, Nordic Walkers (and wannabe Nordic walkers) from far and wide! Come on your own or with a group or come to get started and join our family!

Feel free to attend all 3 days or come along to tackle the challenge routes (27 and 16 miles) which are on the Saturday. You can choose to do as much or as little as you like! We have a range of tickets to reflect the perfect festival experience for you.

The Festival Hub
The key location for accessibility for accommodation with good links to the Festival HUB and most walks would be Corfe Castle, Swanage, Wareham and the surrounding areas — we have lots of mini hubs around the area and in all the best locations. If you are looking for accommodation there are a host of venues from Cottages and Campsites to Yurts and luxury Boutique Hotels all waiting for you to get booked in.

For those without cars, there is access via bus from Wareham station. There is a steam train from Corfe Castle to Swanage and a great bus service (The Purbeck Breezer).

Please note, whilst many walks will be starting from the HUB – many will also start at other locations around the Isle of Purbeck and full directions will be given when you register for them – we also provide a map and directions in your goodie bag to help you make the most of your festival plan. We want you to experience the full range of hills, rugged coast and moorland plus the history and culture of our amazing ‘Island’. More information coming soon but if you are interested, secure your place today by securing your ticket for the days you want to join us.

The full schedule for each festival will be released 3 months prior to the event – at this point those who have purchased TICKETS will be able to create their own festival plans by selecting walks and workshops that suit their ability and timetable.

To secure a place all you need to do is to register and buy a ticket for the day or days you would like to join us and add a challenge if you fancy taking part in one! Each day ticket will provide you access to the HUB (via a wristband) and the ability to enjoy any of the walks and workshops scheduled that day.

Once the full timetable is released, you will be able to access your account and select the walks, workshops and presentations that work for you! Most sessions are available each day of the event and many are repeated several times to make sure you do not miss out.

Note some activities may incur additional costs due to catering, entry fees or travel (Cream teas, Ferries, Museum entries and so forth) payment is taken when the activity is selected.

Register early because priority for booking individual activities is given in order of initial registration date.

NEW TO NORDIC WALKING?
If you fancy learning how to Nordic walk – come along to the Festival and book tuition when the activities open for booking.

NON NORDIC WALKER?
NEW in 2019 and now a major part of what we do – we know not everybody wants (or can) Nordic Walk, so last year we introduced activities for those not ready for pole walking. Popular with relatives of our original pole walking attendees, this inspired us to expand with our new brand WALX and in 2021 there will be as many WALX for all levels as there are specific Nordic WALX.

ACCESSIBLE WALKS
As part of our partnership with THE OUTDOOR GUIDE who sponsor our ACCESSIBLE WALX – we have some amazing WALX suitable for wheelchairs and all terrain buggies. Come along and join in the Festival Fun, enjoy the social events and see the best views Purbeck has to offer. Tramper hire is available too.

Norden: The Festival of Cool, is taking over the Harbourfront Centre for nine days, inviting Toronto to discover the richness of the Nordic region.

Featuring some of the most creative driving forces in Nordic contemporary art, music, and thought leadership, this inaugural festival promises to make you think differently about the dark nights of winter.

Throughout the festival, visitors can look forward to Nordic music, visual arts, films, panel talks, a pop-up holiday market, and of course, food.

For the foodies, chef Anothy Rose of Rose and Sons will be hosting an intimate Nordic culinary experience with celebrated restauranter and Noma co-founder Claus Meyer.

Visitors are invited to lace up and skate on Toronto’s most scenic outdoor ice rink as acclaimed artists from Iceland, Denmark, Greenland and Norway perform, in addition to ice skating dance parties to the sounds of Swedish superstars ABBA.
