A slot antenna having the characteristics of frequency and the pattern reconﬁgurability using PIN diodes is reported in. The antenna uses two switches on the slot to produce multiple resonant bands, while the four slits along with the switches produce pattern.

Abstract

A pattern reconfigurable U-slot antenna on a microwave substrate is presented. The antenna consists of a U-slot patch and eight shorting posts. Each edge of the square patch is connected to two shorting posts by PIN diodes. By switching between the different states of the PIN diodes, the proposed antenna can radiate boresight or conical patterns; moreover, the position of the main lobes of the. A wideband slot antenna with frequency- and pattern-reconfigurable characteristics for TD-LTE (3.4–3.8 GHz) and C-band (3.7–4.2 GHz) applications is proposed. The antenna consists of two symmetric slots that are fed by a fork-shaped microstrip line. Two PIN diodes are loaded in the slots to produce two different frequency bands.

This paper proposed a frequency reconfigurable CPW center-fed slot antenna. Four pin-diodes are utilized to switch the length of the slot. By tuning the different pairs of diodes on or off, three resonant frequency bands can be obtained. The simulated and measured results validate this concept. This antenna architecture is interesting for wireless applications because it is easily fabricated and integrated with RF circuitry.
